Plot Summary: Jennifer Garner stars in
Columbia Pictures' romantic comedy-drama "Catch and Release," from
writer-director Susannah Grant, an Academy Award® nominee for her screenplay for
"Erin Brockovich." After the sudden death of her fiancé, Gray Wheeler (Garner)
finds comfort in the company of his friends: lighthearted and comic Sam (Kevin
Smith), hyper-responsible Dennis (Sam Jaeger), and, oddly enough, his old
childhood buddy Fritz (Timothy Olyphant), an irresponsible playboy whom she'd
previously pegged as one of the least reliable people in the world. As secrets
about her supposedly perfect fiancé emerge, Gray comes to see new sides of the
man she thought she knew, and at the same time, finds herself drawn to the last
man she ever expected to fall for.

5 Second Review: Throw it back. This is a chick flick that's not
even good for a chick flick. We can't even find a positive review to
post and we try to always put at least one positive review up.
"All
you’ll see in Catch and Release is airplane faces" Josh Tyler: CinemaBlend It can’t be just that the
script has gone horribly wrong here. Grant should know a thing or two
about writing. Maybe she’s just not cut out for directing. This is her
directorial debut, and while it’s not exactly a disaster it’s certainly
not up to the standards I normally associate with other work that has
her name on it. If you catch Catch and Release, feel free
to throw it back...more
"A
confused, disjointed motion picture that tries to be many
things and succeeds in being none" James Berardinelli : Reelviews
Nearly every intended instance of humor fails,
indicating that Catch and Release should have been
positioned as a straight drama. Whatever her talents,
Susannah Grant isn't good with comedy. (This is her feature
debut. Her previous credits as a screenwriter include
Erin Brockovich and In Her Shoes.) Her cast isn't
top notch, but it's unfair to blame them for being unable to
do much with her unfocused screenplay...more
