Plot Summary: "Kingdom of Heaven" is an epic adventure about a common man who finds himself thrust into a decades-long war. A stranger in a strange land, he serves a doomed king, falls in love with an exotic and forbidden queen, and rises to knighthood. Ultimately, he must protect the people of Jerusalem from overwhelming forces – while striving to keep a fragile peace.

- Almost phony baloney

In the 12th century, Village blacksmith Balian (a one-dimensional Orlando Bloom) travels to Jerusalem seeking forgiveness in the Holy land to purge his sins, after murdering a priest who insults the memory of his deceased wife. Balian becomes embroiled in the battle for control of Jerusalem.

Although an historical spectacle, Kingdom of Heaven is contrived and false in its own way, as well as offering several clichés and a plodding pace.

Like director Ridley Scott’s Hannibal and Black Hawk Down this is well-crafted (with special effects laden battle sequences) but emotionally distant and uninvolving, with Edward Norton’s leprosy ridden masked King of Jerusalem emblematic of the movie’s emotional mistrust. It is Kingdom of Heaven’s thoughtful theological rationale which is most striking, asking questions about God’s will among Muslim-Christian relations, and provides some truthful observations. The movie is an easily detectable parable and metaphor for conciliation between Muslim and Christian.

5 Second Review:

Oh no! Another epic that doesn't live up to it's billing.  This movie is an uncontroversial film about the crusades.... that alone should tell you how stupid it is.
