Review By Blake French:
- Words escape me ... ecstasy
Although the first three Star Wars films provided mindless
fun, their return to theaters in the 90’s seemed like a desperate
marketing franchise. The release of The Phantom Menace
confirmed that theory; it shoveled special effects-laden nonsense at
anxious fans who in turn purchased all Star Wars merchandise on
the market—and believe me, there was a lot of Star Wars
merchandise available.
That said, Star Wars—Episode 2: Attack of the Clones blew
me out of my seat. This is not another Phantom Menace franchise;
it’s a phenomenal, eye-popping feast for the senses. Certainly,

in return: a movie that proudly stands up to the originals.....more

be only fully felt at the cinema. State-of-the-art computer effects are eye blowing and
conceptual design is highly imaginative....more

Jackson "Strikes Back"
Despite some tepid reviews, Attack of
the Clones still raked in an impressive $110 million just four days
after release. In his first post Star Wars interview, Access
Hollywood's Pat O'Brien tracked down the purple light-saber wielding
Mace Windu, Samuel L. Jackson.
When asked about the huge box-office
returns, Samuel said, "I thought it was fantastic. Everybody tried
to make a horse race out of it. George [Lucas] had to beat Spider-Man.
It had to be bigger or Star Wars would not be considered as
successful. It was that kind of deal."....more |

The
Political Brilliance of Darth Vader
The Weekly Standard's Jonathan V. Last makes the case for
Imperial Rule, in which "a large group of regional potentates,
each with access to a sizable army and star destroyers, runs local
affairs."
