Plot Summary: In "X-Men: The Last Stand," the
climax of the "X-Men" motion picture trilogy, a "cure" for mutancy threatens to
alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain
their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers
and become human. The opposing viewpoints of mutant leaders Charles Xavier, who
preaches tolerance, and Magneto, who believes in the survival of the fittest,
are put to the ultimate test – triggering the war to end all wars.

Fanfolk who've been grousing about the
last-minute recruitment of "Rush Hour" director Brett Ratner to replace
the departed Bryan Singer at the helm of this "final" X-Men movie
needn't have fretted quite so much. Ratner hasn't taken the franchisedown the toilet; he's simply moved it deeper
into the familiar summer-blockbuster terrain of big-bang-boom. There's a
whole lot of fighting, and a whole bunch of stuff blows up, and some of
the gigantoid digital effects are genuinely impressive...
It's painful to agree with them even a little, but the peevish cyber
fanboys wringing their hands over the future of the X-Men
franchise had reason to fret. The Last Stand doesn't play out as
a grand final adventure (although, much like a Rolling Stones farewell
tour, there's some doubt as to whether this really is the end). Instead,
it's a disappointing chapter in what until now has been a highly
entertaining, even thought-provoking series...more

Action movies aren't doing well this summer. It could be Hollywood's
new formula: No story, no plot … just action, all of the time.
"Mission: Impossible III" was all Tom Cruise, all the time. I liked
it. It got good reviews. It's not a flop, but it is a big box office
disappointment.
Then came the big budget "Poseidon" remake. Five minutes into the
movie, the boat sinks. Nine minutes into the movie, the movie sinks.
Now, we turn to "X-Men: The Last Stand," the third and allegedly the
last in the series, and let's hope so. Three's hardly a charm...more

X-Men: The Last Stand’ may have been regarded as the final offering
in the Marvel Comics based mutant saga, but past successes (ca-ching!)
have given cause for a change of heart.
Why kill a good franchise when it’s as lucrative as this one?
Previous efforts netted mega millions in box office receipts with a
combined cost of around $200-million.
So, no trilogy. The final moments literally shout out ‘there’s more,
there’s more!’ and a four second tease at the end of the credit role is
proof positive...
